• Gas igniter and valve coils — moderate cost. Same logic as the heating element.
• Drive motor — higher cost repair. Apply the 50% rule specifically here — get a quote, compare to replacement cost, assess overall machine condition before proceeding.

Requires Careful Consideration at Ten Years

On a ten-year-old Samsung or LG, a control board replacement can approach or exceed the 50% threshold on its own. Get the exact quote, check the replacement cost, and make the decision with the numbers in front of you.
• Multiple simultaneous failures — a machine that needs a belt, rollers, an idler pulley, and a heating element all at once has reached a point where the cumulative repair cost may approach the threshold even though each individual component is inexpensive. A technician’s honest overall condition assessment matters here.

Brand Matters — Significantly

The same repair on two different brands at ten years old is not the same decision.
