How to Read This Guide
Most dryer error codes fall into three categories: airflow problems, heating problems, and sensor or electrical problems. The same symptom — say, a machine that stops mid-cycle — can trigger different codes on different brands. Knowing which category your code falls into tells you where the diagnosis starts.
One important note before the brand breakdown: many codes that look like component failures are actually caused by a blocked dryer vent. A restricted vent causes the machine to overheat, which triggers thermal cutoffs, sensors, and safety fuses across every major brand. Before assuming a component has failed, check airflow at the exterior vent cap. If it is weak or the louvres are stuck, clear the restriction first — in many cases the code clears on its own once normal airflow is restored.
Samsung Dryer Error Codes
Samsung uses an alphanumeric error system. These are the codes we see most frequently on Pensacola-area Samsung calls:

LG Dryer Error Codes
LG’s most notorious code — the D80 — is the one we get the most calls about. It is important to understand because it is almost always an airflow problem, not a component failure.

The D80 code is the single most common LG dryer call we receive in the Pensacola area. Whirlpool Dryer Error Codes
Older Whirlpool machines display fault codes as blinking LED patterns rather than alphanumeric displays. Newer models with digital displays use the codes below:

Maytag Dryer Error Codes
Maytag (now part of Whirlpool Corporation) uses a similar code system to Whirlpool on most current platforms. Older Maytag Bravos and Centennial machines display codes differently — consult your model’s manual for the LED blink pattern translation.

The codes above cover what homeowners can reasonably diagnose from the outside. The line between DIY and professional territory is this: anything involving gas connections, 240V wiring, internal component replacement on a sealed machine, or a code that has not cleared after the obvious causes have been eliminated is worth a professional look.
The most important thing to do before calling is to clear the vent restriction if you have not already. It resolves a significant percentage of error codes across every brand — and if it does not resolve the code, it at least eliminates the most common cause and makes the professional diagnosis faster and less expensive.
